E-textbooks for the iPad

The CK-12 Foundation has e-textbooks for iPads called Flexbooks. They are Creative Commons Licensed making them free for use by educational bodies as long as you attribute them.

The list of titles available at KeyBookshop.com covers a wonderful array of topics including core subjects such as reading, writing, math, science, literature social studies and language as well as more specialized topics such as computers, technology, arts, crafts, and many others. Teacher resources including activity guides, reproducible worksheets, lesson planning guides, and holiday ideas are also available. they are available in a pdf format which could be read by apps like Goodreader.

  1. Some nicely-spotted apps here! It will be really interesting to see how the developers exploit the touch interface to allow the students to interact with the content on the textbook.

    I'm still of the opinion that typing at great (or even medium) length is unwieldy on the iPad, so while I can see the textbook potential for a 1-1 environment with iPads at centre stage, I can't see how they'd be used as a standalone writing device - that is, without some form of bluetooth keyboard.
